How long do you have to be married to do a stepparent adoption?
Michigan requires the parties to be married for at least one year prior to the finalization of the step parent adoption process.
If we are a same sex marriage and we did in vitro fertilization (IVF), does the nonbiological parent need to adopt?
The laws are supposed to have become gender neutral in Michigan. Thus the presumption that a child born while the mother is married is considered a “product” of the marriage. In Michigan it really depends on who blind the IVF was. Was it a known donor or a random donor? Need to check on this mor.
